Life in General

Hello,
Megan here. So, after hiking on Saturday, I went and lifeguarded for Girl Scout troop up in the El Dorado foothills. The troop was from Mountain View and were camping along the South Fork of the American River. The girls and parent helpers were all friendly and welcoming - and they fed me! Woohoo!!

So, this week, I have re-entered the Twilight saga. I have read all 4 books before, and I decided I should 1) own them, and 2) re-read them. Since I am regularly lost in these books, Dave has taken to conquering many worlds in the game "Metroid Prime 3" - borrowed from a friend of ours. From my occasional observations, he seems to be winning :)

As many of you know, our "plan" when we moved in to our apartment was to live here for at least 2 years. The reason was we had both been moving at least once a year for several years through college, and we wanted to stay in one place long enough to feel "settled" and "home." So, with our 2-year anniversary coming up, we are getting antsy for a yard, garage, and many other things that come with a house. We have been looking at rental homes and have found a few promising ones in the area. We sit eagerly waiting for a response from a guy right now about a house a few minutes away from where we live. So, if you could please pray for us and rental houses, that would be wonderful

Tomorrow, our friends are moving in to their newly purchased house, and I will be helping them moved. Unfortunately, Dave has to work tomorrow, so he will be unable to help with the moving (unless we're not done by the time he gets off work). Oh well, more pizza and soda for me, then!

I realized this post doesn't have much in the way of updates, but our weeks are usually pretty simple...we go a little crazy on weekends, so there might be a post coming soon about crazy adventures!

Hiking in Auburn

Hiking in Auburn is fun! Do you know why? Because it just is!
Getting outdoors, smelling the fresh air, seeing some critters and having good conversations - what's not to love?.
Ben (who's a pretty cool guy, by the way) knows the area very well and wowed us with his tour guide prowess.
The picture you see here is the site of the once-funded Auburn Dam. Had there been enough money to finish it, it would have stretched from one side of this picture to the other.
We passed other interesting things, too! An old mine shaft was marked off with bright orange mesh fencing. We didn't really stop to look at it, but Ben says it goes straight down into the hillside. I had no interest in going into the hillside and neither did anyone else, so we left that mess alone and continued on. Racers kept speeding towards and past us throughout the day. We have no idea where they started or where they were going... Wildflowers dotted the hills, greatly contributing to the overall awesomeness of the day.
This picture is of the Forest Hill Bridge. You can see it way off in the distance there. Apparently, it's the tallest bridge in the Western Hemisphere! Pretty neat, huh!? A couple years ago I also heard it was about 12 years overdue for inspection and repairs. Megan and I have walked out on it and looked over the edge before. Won't be doing that again!
As I mentioned earlier, hiking in Auburn is fun! It should then be of no surprise to you, oh wise reader, that we had a fun time! It was great getting to know Ben, we killed some major calories, and the scenery was pretty dang sweet! I think we will definitely be doing this again some time.

Dave

The first

So this is our first blog-diddy. Currently, we've had a lot of coffee, enjoyed Megan's first Saturday without work, and David has not had a shower...so he's going a little crazy (note: blog-diddy). I (Megan) took over promptly. Also, I am a better typer, so we will actually get through this without having to retype every word. (Dave seems to disagree, and says I'm a typist.)

We are the Hubbells, the mighty-mighty Hubbells...OK, so I might be going a little crazy too...

Anyway, we hope to share our crazy adventures and life's activities on here. ...and maybe we'll share some pictures, too!

Today, we are going on a hike with a guy named Ben. Ben is friends with our friends Brian and Rebekah. Dave says, "We're totally friend-robbing." After some extreme walking (aka: hiking), I am lifeguarding for a Girl Scout troup. Dave will have to find something to do...sigh.

Cool stuff, eh? We hope to keep up with our posts, and we hope you do too!

Peace out,
Megan and David Hubbell
